Are you ready to say so long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye to 2020? I certainly am. And there is no better way to say goodbye to a year than to start planning for the next year, so here it is something to look forward to in the beginning of 2021: our Luso World Cinema Blogathon is back!
The Luso World Cinema Blogathon was held for the first time in 2019, hosted by me here at Crítica Retrô and by Beth at Spellbound by Movies. We were more than thrilled when the blogathon won the award for Best Classic Film Event of the year, tied with the equally amazing 4th Alfred Hitchcock blogathon, hosted by Maddy at Maddy Loves Her Classic Films. Hooray!
The Luso World Cinema Blogathon once again accepts posts about films made in Lusophone countries, that is, countries that speak Portuguese – see the list below –, and film stars with Luso heritage, that means, film stars of Portuguese descent. This list includes natives like Carmen Miranda, Rodrigo Santoro, Sônia Braga (recently named one of the 25 best actors of the 21stcentury!), Raul Roulien, Maria de Medeiros and also Keanu Reeves, Mary Astor, Louise Fazenda, Tom Hanks, Joe DeRita, James Franco, Daniel Brühl, Auli'i Cravalho (the voice of Disney's Moana!), Nestor Paiva, Amy Poehler, Dorothy DeBorba and many more you can find listed HERE. You can write an overview of those people's lives or careers or focus on a specific film or TV show they made.
Here are a few lists of movies from Lusophone countries:
List of films from Guinea-Bissau
List of films from São Tomé and Príncipe
List of films from Equatorial Guinea
There are many options for the blogathon! You can be inspired also by our list of contributors from our first year, found HERE.

Hi Le! I'd love to take a look at 2 of Louise Fazenda's films: Hearts and Flowers (1919) and Down on the Farm (1920) – if they're not already spoken for, that is!
ReplyDeleteHi Le, hope you are well. Can you please add me with Mystic Pizza (1988)? Thanks from Gill at Realweegiemidget Reviews
ReplyDeleteHi, Le! I'd like to write about Carmen Miranda in "The Gang's All Here," please, if that's OK. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI would like to contribute the Tom Hanks' film Apollo 13.
ReplyDeleteTHE TWO POPES, directed by Fernando Meirelles.
ReplyDeleteThis year I really will cover CASA DE LAVA (1995)!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm teaming up with Karie Bible from Hollywood Kitchen blog (https://www.hollywoodkitchenshow.com) to discuss Carmen Miranda while we make creme de abacate.
Terence Towles Canote from A Shroud of Thoughts signed up on Spellbound to cover O PÁTIO DAS CANTIGAS (1942) as well.
Exciting how we're already at half of the sign-ups as last year with some great topics!
Hi Le, I would like to write about A Guerra da Beatriz (2013) from East Timor. Happy Holidays! Dan Akira http://crimsonkimono.com
ReplyDeleteHello Le! For your blogathon last year, you featured a blogathon poster that listed the event's name in light green letters. What is the name of the movie pictured in that poster?
